Paws patted against the hard flooring in the cave which acted as Seaclan's camp as an apprentice made his way to the pile of fresh kill that was there for the good of the Clan. Reefpaw had gone out hunting earlier in the day and even now, the cave was flooded with a low red glow as the sun had begun to set for the day. He had been planning to eat his evening meal alone in the peace of his own company, but he had run into his mother who had suggested that he go visit his father for a meal. Reefpaw sighed at the thought where he had reluctantly nodded, not wanting to argue with the she-cat, but because he had given in to her, he now needed to go face the leader of the Clan. Some felines would be nervous about that prospect for a certain other reason, but Reefpaw was just not like his family.[break][break]

And he didn't need to be reminded of the fact that he was a part of the monarchy's family.[break][break]

Shaking his head, the white and ginger tom reached down to pick out a couple of fish that would have been caught from the sea. He could already taste some of the salt that would be clinging to the fish's scales even after the journey of being carried back to the camp. Flicking his tail, Reefpaw turned and headed towards the back of the camp where an alcove had been created in the camp's cave wall, creating a den where the leaders have made their nests. The apprentice paused at the den's opening and in a voice that was loud enough to be heard, but still soft in nature, called out, "Redsea? I brought some prey if you're hungry." A part of him hoped the leader wasn't in, but he could tell the leader's scent was fresh.

Redsea found that as age had crept over him like a veil, sleep had become something elusive and lackluster. There were nights when he'd lay restlessly in his nest for hours, listening to the steady rise and fall of his mate's breathing as he cursed himself for remaining wide awake. This lack of sleep had seen a sharp decline in his energy and these days it wasn't uncommon for the ancient tom to remain in camp for days at a time. After all, what warrior duties could he still carry out? His bones cracked and popped painfully when he attempted a hunting crouch... and a fight would more than likely result in his death. And after so many moons of leadership, there was only one life that still remained to him.

And Redsea wasn't about to waste it in a skirmish.

Besides, there were plenty of matters that required his attention in camp. He could still lead, he just couldn't get down into the muck with his warriors as he once had. A soft sigh blew past dry lips as the ginger tom shifted irritably in his nest. Comfort also seemed a distant dream these days. Pain almost always gripped Redsea in one fashion or another as arthritis seeped slowly into his joints. But it was fine. He was fine. A little pain wasn't about to stand in the monarch's way.

Redsea's neck cracked as his head snapped in the direction of his den's entrance, a familiar voice sending a flicker of surprise through his veins. Reefpaw. What in Starclan's name was he doing here? Redsea did his best to maintain his standard of fatherhood - he'd visited his children while they were young, he'd picked good mentors for them, and he'd watched over them from afar as they'd grown. But never had he been particularly close with any of them.

And he especially wasn't close with his youngest son. "Then what are you waiting for out there?" He returned crankily. They may not have been close, but that didn't mean Redsea was about to turn down a meal he didn't have to go get himself. "Bring it in here."

"Then what are you waiting for out there?" The tom's cranky voice called out to him and Reefpaw let out a sigh. He could have said it a little more welcoming, he thought to himself but knew better than saying anything akin to it out loud - even if it was merely under his breath. After a moment to collect himself and his thoughts, the white and ginger tom moved into the den with the prey safe in his mouth. He set one in front of the leader and mumbled loud enough for Redsea to hear, "Hope this meets your taste." The apprentice's eyes gazed over the older tom, taking in some of the outward signs of the tom's age. There weren't many obvious signs as the tom had quite a bit of natural white fur, but there was some white peeking out amongst the ginger.[break][break]

With a small flick of his tail, the tom went and took a seat a couple of mouse-lengths away, his eyes focusing on the fish he had kept for himself. The felines in the Clan had to be careful in the last moon as fish had begun to become harder to find, but they were still his favorite. A part of him worried that if they got more of that odd rain, they might not be able to find any more of the glistening morsels. Reefpaw's ears flicked and he let out a soft, slow breath of air, trying to push the thoughts away. Those were thoughts for the other tom in this den, his worry and someday maybe even Gingersky's worries. He could be sad about not getting to taste fish someday, but it wasn't his responsibility to look for a fix.[break][break]

He reached down to take a bite from the fish, savoring the taste of it. He let the flavors play within his mouth for a moment, grateful for the food after having gone out hunting earlier in the day. After another bite, Reefpaw turned his yellow gaze to look at Redsea again, though he didn't say anything else. He had nothing really to say to the tom and not really out of too many ill feelings but just 'cause he didn't usually have much to say to others in general. He was fine with them doing the talking and he was sure that if there was anything Redsea wished to ask him about, the old tom would do just fine bringing it up on his own.
